Budget to speed up agriculture reformsThe 2001-02 Union budget will speed up agriculture reforms and better management of economy besides intensifying infrastructure investment and financial sector reforms. Presenting his fourth budget in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said there would be continued reforms on capital market and deepening of sectoral reforms through removal of tax on controls. The budget would aim at stringent expenditure control of non-productive activities, rationalisation of subsidies and improvement in government expenditure. It will accelerate privatisation process and restructure public enterprises. Sinha said there would be revenue enhancement for widening of tax base and administration of a fair and equitable tax regime.
