Market@April 16: Day's report

Sensex closes in the positive point after five days. Software stocks managed to attract good buying during the second half, and showed impressive gains. Global Tele, Pentamedia, Wipro, DSQ Software, Digital Equipment, Silverline hit the 16 per cent upper circuit.

Himachal, SSI and Satyam also gained more than 12 per cent, and the gain in counters like Infosys and NIIT was over 6 per cent.

HLL lost 12 per cent in early trading but recovered sharply, and was down 2 per cent at the end. Reliance, Tata Power, Tisco, ACC, RPL, HDFC, Tata Tea, and Bhel recorded impressive gains. The index touched a 27 month low in the first half of the day.

Sensex up 68 points at 3252. Nifty up 24 points at 1049.
