Tripura moots moves to restore normal supplies to North East

In Tripura, the government today reviewed its stock position of salt and warned the businessmen to refrain from creating artificial salt crisis in the state.

State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Gopal Das said that it has enough stock of 3,150 tonnes of salt, which could be supplied through the public distribution system during the next four months. Moreover, 3500 tonnes of salt would reach the state within the next seven days, he announced. Besides these, businessmen had salt in their godowns to run for a month in the state, he added.

He also said the Tripura government would talk to its counterpart in West Bengal in view of the latter's decision not to export potatoes and onions to other states. Das said the state government has taken steps to import onions and potatoes from other states including Meghalaya.

He said the Tripura government would submit to the Centre on November 7 proposals to supply 14 essential commodities through the PDS at a subsidised rate.
