Enron is firm no-no: Kerala power minister

Kerala Power Minister Pinarayi Vijayan says there was no question of allowing the participation of the multinational Enron in the proposed 51-mw Kannur power project of K P P Nambiar and Associates.

He said the government was against it as Enron's participation in a project in Maharashtra had created controversy.

Vijayan said the state's stand vis-a-vis Enron had already been communicated to the Union government.

He said the Kerala State Electricity Board has signed an agreement with the National Thermal Power Corporation, under which the state would get 280 mw of power from the 2000-mw Thalchar power project in Orissa from 2002.

Vijayan, who recently visited China to see for himself the successful working of small and micro hydel projects, said a team of experts from that country would arrive in Thiruvananthapuram next week for discussions to set up similar projects.
