India must opt out of WTO: ThakreBharatiya Janata Party president Kushabhau Thakre said today that India should opt out of the World Trade Organisation as it could not afford to continue functioning under its umbrella in view of the sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries. He said it was unfortunate that the previous United Front government at the Centre had signed the WTO agreement without bothering about the negative ramifications on India's sovereignty and various sectors including agriculture, trade, commerce and industry. Thakre criticised the Western countries for turning a blind eye to Pakistan's nuclear weaponisation programme and scuttling India's security arrangements including developing and testing of missile technology. India, he said, should start negotiations to save itself from the WTO and its machinations. UNI
