Tata Indica priced in Rs 259,000-400,000 rangeIndica -- the passenger car developed by Telco -- was launched in Bombay today with the pricing being in the Rs 259,000-400,000 range. The standard petrol car is priced at Rs 259,000, standard diesel deluxe at Rs 285,000, the air-conditioned diesel at Rs 295,000 and the air-conditioned deluxe diesel at Rs 390,000. The prices are ex-showroom in Delhi. The comparative prices for Bombay are Rs 263,300 for standard petrol, Rs 290,400 for the diesel, Rs 300,800 for deluxe and Rs 399,800 for air-conditioned deluxe, said a company release. The ex-showroom prices for Bangalore are: Rs 261,500, Rs 288,100, Rs 298,300 and Rs 3,95,500; Calcutta: Rs 253,800, Rs 279,000, Rs 288,700, Rs 380,700; Pune: Rs 254,600, Rs 280,800, Rs 290,900 and Rs 386,900. Presenting Indica, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Telco, said, "We started the Indica project with a commitment to develop a car for the Indian market that could be benchmarked against the world's best in terms of features, looks and performance-and yet offers a great value propositon. A car designed for India rather than one adapted for India. Today, that vision is becoming a reality." Bookings for a maximum of 10,000 cars, which were initially planned to commence from January 14, 1999 are rescheduled to begin on January 17 on account of public holidays. The car would be available in showrooms from Thursday onwards and available for test drives and viewing ahead of the booking dates. The auto finance for the car is provided by Tata Finance and ANZ Grindlays. Telco may advance the close of bookings if the company achieves the 10,000 sales mark by January 23. The Tata Indica comes with an 18-month unlimited mileage warranty and is available in eight colours. According the company statement, Indica has a 1400cc engine that generates enough power to take five people and luggage up the steepest inclines even with the air-conditioner on. The boot can house even the largest suitcases with a fully foldable rear seat. On the safety side, it is ergonomically designed for passenger safety and comfort and adheres to the European safety norms that are considered the toughest in the world.
