PM moots new panel to consider reports of trade and industry councilPrime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has favoured setting up an empowered committee to consider the recommendations of the six reports submitted by members of the Council on Trade and Industry and said in areas of broad consensus implementation could begin straightaway. Addressing the second meeting of the CTI, Vajpayee said: ''We can take stock of the progress made in about six weeks and consider further measures to speed up progress.'' The reports related to infrastructure under the convenorship of Ratan Tata, capital markets and financial sector initiatives under the convenorship of Mukhesh Ambani, food and agro-industries management policy under Nusli Wadia, knowledge industries under A C Mutiah and administrative and legal simplifications under Kumaramangalam Birla. The prime minister suggested that these reports be put on the Internet. This would contribute to de-politicising the agenda of economic reforms, he added. UNI |
